If I Lose My Mind Again
If I lose my mind again,
The search will be a hunt.
It’s getting a bit ridiculous,
I lose it twice a month.
It’s not like I don’t guard it!
There’s just a few screws loose.
The latch is kind of rusty,
What’s a tighter knot than a noose?
If I lose my mind again,
I’ll mark it on the map
Of all the places I’ve lost it before
And where I’ve set my traps
One time I found it in a web,
Tangled and tied with knots.
Arachnids weave and leave you with
impressive intrusive thoughts
One time I found it with a boy
He liked to watch it rot.
So I showed him my darkest fantasies
He regretted getting caught.
One time I found it growing mold
The moss was delicate and fragile,
I think my mind really liked that spot
She’s usually avoidant and agile.
But I won’t lose my mind again,
This time, I’ll lock it up
I’ll construct the perfect iron cage
And solder the cracks shut
But first I’ll place some rosemary and little forget my nots
One of those is for remembrance
Oh and some pansies,
for my thoughts
So I’ll take it somewhere haunted,
Deserted and alone
So no one dare to try to take it
And claim it as their own.
I’ll spend a night to dig a hole
Under an unassuming tree
It’s good to ask permission first
Don’t make that mistake, trust me
Oh wait, where did it go?
It was just here, was it not?
I wrote it down, the last location
Was here, was now, Bampot.
Wait, I swear I pinned it down
I can’t be losing it again
It’s quiet and lonely and I want it back
My mind’s my only friend.
I can’t help that she’s a flight risk
Distracted all the time
But if I’ve lost my mind again
I wonder if it’s mine.
